Benchmark Tool

Corporate buildings are significant contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for the largest single component of total energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions for Canadian municipalities. Enhancing building efficiency is essential for reducing energy consumption, lowering operational costs, and mitigating environmental impacts.

We’ve created the benchmark tool to help municipalities leverage the data submitted to and collected by the Ministry of Energy Broader Public Sector dataset by building it into an easy-to-use, searchable interface.

Using the Benchmark tool

We are continuously expanding the dataset as new information is released and refining the analysis based on user-feedback and input.

  • Search by Municipality, Building Name or Building Type

  • Compare individual building performance against provincial averages for that building type

  • Compare individual building performance against other buildings of the same type operated by other municipalities within the province

  • Identify buildings and facilities within a municipalities stock which deviate the greatest from the provincial average, representing the targets for further energy investigation, audits and retrofits.

  • Engage with those operating, working in, and maintaining each facility for first-hand feedback on building energy performance
